House Guests & Nature....

Hello Everybody!!! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. We are just busy getting everything ready for house guests that will be arriving this Friday! We'll have back to back guests until the middle of August. We are pretty excited, though and can't wait to see everybody. I hope everybody enjoys their stay. Of course, we are incorporating lots of hikes, canoe trips & music into the mix, so I'm sure a grand time will be had by all.

So I'm @ Poppies the other day getting a few things we needed and I ran across this awesome plant:
It's a "Pitcher Plant", also known as a "Monkey Cup". It's a tropical and is actually a carnivore plant, which traps insects in the cups and then digests them:I hope I can keep it alive ~ I think it's just awesome! There are several more little "pitchers" forming and it will be exciting to watch their progress. I'll be sure & post pictures here.

Another awesome plant that grows wild around here are the "Wild Hydrangeas":
it's like they make a "nest" of sorts, before they flower:They are really beautiful & are growing everywhere!

Well I'm off to the "Queens" Farm to gather some fresh potatoes & corn for dinner and then I'll be working on a few new necklaces for the shop. I hope you have a happy Monday!!!

Tranquility....

Yesterday was the "Maiden Voyage" with our canoe. We took a 7 hour trip down the "French Broad River" with our friends Jerry & Suzanne. It was Jerry's birthday and it was a perfect day! We started off the trip around noon, then stopped after about 2 hours and had a picnic on the rocks. Then we headed off again and floated until we reached the "Duck Pond" pottery studio and there we shared a watermelon with Nick....Jerry enjoyed a smoke from his pipe:and then Nick jumped in his Kayak and joined us for the rest of the trip:It was just sooooo awesome ~ on the last part of the trip there were 3 Egrets that were "leading the way". They would fly just ahead of us and wait for us to almost catch up and then fly a little ahead of us again. They were just beautiful to watch, and so graceful in flight:
We saw lots of other animals, too. Like this cute little turtle that seemed to be waving to us as we floated by:we saw several Otter, that avoided my camera @ all costs! Then we saw these somewhat ugly & frightening Turkey Vultures, that we were almost certain would poop on us if we floated under them to closely:and then when we rounded the curve, there were these cows standing right in the middle of the river! We we a little skeptical to go by them, but they just "moozied" on out of the way {thank goodness} ~ all I could think was "oh gosh, they are going to tump us over and then we will be swimming in cow poop":But the trip was just amazing and so tranquil! I feel much better now and my creative juices are flowing in abundance *yay* ~ so I'm off to package up a few things and then make some new things for the shop {keep your eyes out}. But before I go, I just have to share this awesome picture of Jack @ Jerry's birthday party last night. He is just a little ham!I hope you are having a wonderful day!! Happy Thursday!!!

A Gift For You.....

.....a "virtual" peach, some blueberries & some blackberries. Seriously though, just because you are all so awesome, from right now until Midnight tomorrow night {Wednesday, July 16th} I'm offering a 10% discount on purchases of $25 or more. You know the drill, just purchase what you want from the shop, leave the comment "Peachy" in the comments to seller section and then wait for me to send you an updated PayPal invoice for the discounted amount. I hope you can take this opportunity to snag something you've been eyeing. Don't forget to leave the "Peachy" comment, since this offer is just for my blog readers :)

So my whole yard is a wonderland of blooming things ~ like the berries & peaces shown above, plus these gorgeous Day Lilly Flowers:some wild ginseng:wild hydrangeas:a few lingering hosta flowers:and now the hosta has once again been discovered by the deer...
...I wish they would eat grass & weeds! No such luck, though.

Well, tomorrow we are going on a canoe trip with our friends Jerry & Suzanne ~ it's Jerry's Birthday!!! We are going to go on a 5 hour trip and have a picnic. It should be an awesome day, too. We are looking forward to it. I'll take plenty of pictures and blog about it later. For now, I'm going to steam some fresh snap beans and make some potato salad with some fresh picked potatoes that I got today from "Queen's Produce and Berry Farm". It's a local farm that is almost walking distance from my house! It's just awesome. Besides the veggies, I got a gorgeous bouquet of fresh picked flowers. Ah...life is good.

I hope your week is off to a good start! Happy Tuesday!!!

There's No Place Like Home....

Hello, hello!!! We are back home ~ *Yay* ~ We did have a great time visiting with family & friends, but we are soooooo glad to be back home. Especially Ozzy & Lita, even though Lita slept on top of Wayne most of the time ~ this is a picture of them napping in the back of the car while I was driving:
But the highlight of the whole trip were the awesome fireworks on July 4th:
And spending time with Wayne's family. Don't we look happy!!!

We are!!! Life is good :) So tomorrow I'll start back on my jewelry making, since I can't wait to start making things with those gorgeous glass pendants from my last post. I hope you all had a wonderful holiday weekend last week! But before I go, I just have to share this picture of Suzanne & Jack, two of our favorite people:And a quote from Suzanne last night: "I'm spoiled to death by life" ~ Suzanne Schmitt

Have a happy weekend!!! I'll be back soon ~ promise!
