Age is an Attitude!

So try telling that to my "spaghetti" legs! Seriously, they don't feel that bad and I thought for sure that I wouldn't be able to walk today after our hike up to the very top of Mt. Pisgah yesterday! Here's a picture of the "trail" and the view from the top:

The total hike was 3 miles and it was very strenuous in places, but so worth it! The views were awesome from up there. I'm trying to talk Wayne into starting a blog about the different hikes we have been taking. He would describe the hike itself, difficulty levels, plants you can see, what you should take, pictures, videos, etc. We think it would be a wonderful thing for visitors to this area, especially. They could log on and sort of lay out their day based on the hikes and how long they take. Don't you think that would be a great idea! I do, indeed.

Today we are going to pick up our new canoe and see if we can lift it onto the top of the car! I have renewed confidence in our abilities, after what all we have been doing lately! Wish us luck! After that, we promised Ozzy & Lita we would take them on a walk. Ozzy is begging to go for a swim and he deserves it, since he's been such a good boy lately. They have gotten to where they recognize the back packs and associate them with walks. So now they make us feel really guilty for taking hikes without them. When we get in the car to leave, they are both standing in the front window crying & whimpering. But we just can't take them everywhere because some of the hikes are way too dangerous for them {like Mt. Pisgah, for instance}. So now today is "make-up day". But before we go, it's time to announce the winner from last week's give-away and it's Charlie!!!
Congratulations!! Obviously, Ozzy's favorite number is #1, as it should be, since it officially belongs to Lita around this house! So for next week, being its "Earth Day" week, the give-away will be these:

They are a perfect accessory for any outfit, or occasion. And all you have to do to win them is comment on THIS BLOG POST. Next Friday, Lita will pick another number and if it's yours, you'll win! Good luck!

Off to list a few new things and then to go get the canoe! Hope you are all having a wonderful Friday!!!

Xxoo & peace always ~ Kathy

  1. YAY!!! I was so excited to read about your new canoe that I almost missed my name in the next paragraph! HA! DUDE! We could go canoeing together!!!! Two of my most favorite rivers EVER are south of you all - the Chatooga and the Chatahoochi (they're only *kinda* near you all on the S.C./GA. borders). But how cool...omg - you all are totally making me miss seeing the tops of mountains- :) It makes my leetle heart sing to see you two doing so much cool stuff with Wayne's retirement :) - quite inspiring.

  2. Congrats on the canoe! We have one and one year in a fit of bravado, loaded our 5 year old daughter and 7 year old son and canoed the creek that our road is named for, Cove Creek...it was after lots of rain, so it was running pretty fast...it was harrowing, with my daughter crying most of the time, lots of portaging around rocks...something we haven't done since, but we all remember fondly(sort of).
Hiking is wonderful and like you, Kathy, there are hikes that we just cannot take our dogs on...they're getting too old and too crippled. I hate to leave them, but worry so much when they're with us. Ever since my dog, Atlas , ran down a slippery creek bed and almost plunged 40' down a waterfall...he didn't and the claw marks are probably still there, I have issues with taking them with us.
Atlas died this year at the ripe age of 16...not of old age, but by utility truck..long live Atlas, ever the intrepid explorer.
Have a great weekend and don't catch this crud we have...it's horrible.

  3. Wow, Kathy, these hikes sound amazing! It really seems like heaven for you & Wayne - and Ozzy & Lita, of course. I hear ya on bringing the dogs w/ you... I would not be able to trust Lily & Bourre' off leash out there. At least, I don't think I could.
BTW, we had a baby possum sneak into our house the other night - apparently it was in the room w/ me the entire night while I was sleeping. Said discovered it in the morning... talk about an escapade trying to get that little bugger out!!! Sheesh!

  4. Congratulations, Charlie!!! We got our canoe *yay* Right now it's still on the top of the truck, but we'll be dragging it down to the river soon. We live right between the Davidson & French Broad Rivers. I can't wait!!! But I'm not counting my chickens yet, Jen - I'll probably be crying, too by the end of the first trip. We got a big enough canoe for Ozzy & Lita to come with us!!! I'm thinking we'll all end up soaking wet that first trip :) I hope you are feeling better. Gosh, Kaye! A baby possum! And the dogs didn't go nuts! Ozzy & Lita would have had the whole house in a shambles trying to "herd" that little fellow. I'm glad you were able to get him out. Hope you are all doing well!!!! Have a great weekend. ♥ ~ Kathy
