Guts & Wildflowers…

So where have I been!?! – well, we went on a hike for the past three days in a row. It's just gorgeous up here right now and the wildflowers are popping up all over the place. We just have to take advantage of those things whenever we can. So Monday we took Ozzy & Lita for a swim in "Fawn Lake" – of course, all Lita did was watch – she was not having any part of that swimming stuff, which makes her "a chicken". Even though Wayne got them some life jackets to wear:

At least Ozzy had fun! Tuesday we went on what was supposed to be a "4" mile hike that actually turned into more like "6" miles because part of the road was closed and we had to take a detour. The trail was "Daniel Ridge Loop" and it was very, very rugged & rocky, but gorgeous none-the-less. There was a beautiful waterfall, an awesome creek and some lovely wildflowers:

And then yesterday, we went back to "Cove Creek" to get more pictures of the gorgeous "Pink Lady Slippers":

And then we hiked up to the "North Face of Shining Rock". I thought I was doing good just to hike up to the bottom of this massive rock and then there was a young fellow that had his camp all set up and had climbed about ½ way up the side of the rock! {he's where the red circle is in the picture}. Currently, people can only climb up one side of the rock because there are "Peregrine Falcons" nesting there and they are on the endangered species list.

I couldn't even look up at him for very long in fear that I would fall backwards. I realized right then & there that I was not nearly as "brave" as I thought I was and in fact, I was just "a chicken" like Lita!

P.S. You can click on any one of these pictures and see all of my photos from the last 3 days on "Flickr"

Well, I guess I should get busy and make some new things for "The Shop" ~ Happy Thursday! Xxoo & peace always ~ Kathy

  2. Another thing in common....Cove Creek...I live on Cove Creek!
Love the pics. How about the snakes there? This time of year we have copperheads and rattlesnakes coming out, so hiking and climbing on rocks becomes a bit hazardous.
My puppy, DG, is a Cairn terrier. That breed is supposed to like water, but no, not my Cairn...she's too funny in the water; like a torpedo through the water as fast as she can go!
What's that dude doing up there?? Watching over the falcons?
If you love Peregrine falcons, one of my favorite books as a kid was, "My Side of the Mountain", by Jena Craighead George...I always pictured myself running away and living in a tree...

  3. Hee hee - unfortunately, Lora, it only builds up an appetite! So at night, we drink wine, eat cheese & ice-cream and then justify it the next day by taking a hike :)

I know, Jen! That guy was up there by himself, too! We left him some chocolates next to his coffee pot and wished him a great day! We haven't run across any snakes yet, but I know they are out there and I sometimes forget that I need to be careful. Especially because all I ever wear are my Teva's, so I can trunch through the creeks. I love being outside - I always pictured myself living in a cave, or a tree, too. I used to pretend I could "fly" and I would run across the yard as fast as I could, flapping my arms up and down and imaging my feet leaving the ground {I think they actually did once or twice, too} ~ You guys keep me smiling, for sure ~ ♥

  4. "Courage is doing what you're afriad to do..." Yup - boy how poignant is that? Since it was your horoscope too, I'll share that Shelly's the other day said "If don't feel like you're goign to throw up, you're not sticking your neck out far enough!"

So Shelly gave his two weeks notice yesterday :)

Thanks for all your hiking pictures - I'll try to be happy living vicariously through watching Wayne's retirement :)!!!!!!!

  5. That's awesome, Charlie!!! You tell Shelly, for me, that you never know what you can accomplish when you are totally dependent on yourself for a pay check! After I did our taxes for this year I looked back and realized that I made more money last year than I ever have in my whole life! Even after working for "The Man" for 25 years in a freaking row! I can't even imagine what I may actually have accomplished if I had turned in my "2 week notice" 25 years ago! *Yay*!!!!! We will celebrate all of this goodness when ya'll come visit!
